Hurd isn't doing too well, you are correct. Does that mean others shouldn't try? Hurd may be hung up because Richard Stallman is trying to accomplish something entirely different; or he may not be using enough help; or he may be too busy with other more pressing issues. There are many reasons why the Hurd is delayed. Still, if Linus had followed that logic, where would we all be now? Why point to an (apparent) failure, when you also have an obvious success to point to? I think it's great that someone wants to create yet another OS. Why not? If he fails, he probably has fun trying. Some of the best fun I've had has been doing things that were complete failures from any practical viewpoint. If he succeeds - well, then we've got another choice besides Microsoft products. Maybe there won't be anything ready by the time you graduate. Maybe nothing will come of it - but why not give it a shot? .
