Just make sure your new OS has some distinct advantage that Linux or Hurd does not have - such as, for example, built in clustering capability, etc. If you can come up with something that really rivals Windows in terms of MS software and file compatibility, ease of installation, and equipment compatibility, all of these points where Linux falls short, power to you!!
