You can try LiveCDs like knoppix (www.knoppix.com) that boot up off the CD and run off the CD without a hard disk install and fully automatic configuration. Typically knoppix requires memory dependent on which destop you run. KDE takes up a lot but Fluxbox very little. You can choose the desktop by typing in boot options at the boot menu. Knoppix can also substitute what RAM it hasn't got with a swap file or a swap partition on the hard disk. This you can also specify at boot time. 32Mb and P100 no problem. Knoppix has Open Office - though to be fair, you should do up a big enough swap partition to get the speed you require out of a P100. .
