Subj : Mandrake 10 Installation OK; Screen Blank on Startup To : comp.os.linux From : sajidazmi Date : Fri Aug 13 2004 07:54 am Hi, I've installed Mandrake 10.0 Linux on my Labtop PC and have these problems Dell Inspiron 5000 Intel Pentium III 500 MHz 386 MB Memory on a 3.3 GB Partition for Linux PC Card Ethernet Adapter In the Installation Menu I've selected the default packages + Development + Documentations + Database The installation went fine, when the system started coming up i got the following message (errors) start PCMCIA: cardmgr [597] socket 0: NDC instant-link Ethernet checking for new hardwarecardmgr [794]: executing: ./network start eth0 setting network parameter [OK] bringing up loop back interface [OK] bringing up interface eth0 [FAILED] ... (couple of more message, status OK ) (just when the computer is supposed to load the screen) i noticed this message (EE) FB_OPAN_DISPLAY : Invalid option and then i am greeted with a blank screen, the harddisk kept churning for a minute or so, and still nothing on the SCREEN. i've to reboot the computer. I choose the savesetting to boot into linux got the same error while starting and the system booted up into the console mode and i was prompted by the root prompt. I do not know what happened during the installation. Please note that I've successfully installed Suse 9.1 Personal Linux on the same computer. Please let me its a problem with Mandrake or my computer, can i get a fix for this. Thanks Sajid .
