I'm stongly advising against this since what you ask for is actually being root but with a different name on it. If you su after login you will become root so I still can't understand why you don't want to login as root to begin with. Yet to gain root power as another user all you have to do is to change the UID to 0 in /etc/passwd. Please look at other ways to do what you want to be able to do without grating youself root power, man sudo for instance. Cheers! /svek .
