To : comp.os.linux From : wilson.huang Date : Sun Aug 08 2004 07:57 pm hello all, iīm installing gentoo dist. and iīm having the following problem when i boot: VFS: cannot open root device "2208" or unknown block(34,8) Please append a correct "root" boot option Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block(34,8) info: /dev/hdg6 is my /boot on ext2 /dev/hdg7 is my swap /dev/hdg8 is my root on ext3 my root boot option in lilo conf is correct, root=/dev/hdg8, my fstab is also correct.. Iīve showed to half a dozen people.. and they all couldnīt find out what it is. I did compile the kernel to support ext3 and ext2, and i didnīt do it as a module. Someone told me i had to make an image on boot.. is that right ? how do i do it ? any tips on how to resolve this problem ? tks in advance, Wilson .
