Subj : Newbie: getting sound through 4 speakers instead of 2 To : comp.os.linux From : Willem van der Berg Date : Sun Aug 08 2004 05:58 pm Hello, I've finally decided to take the plunge with Linux, after more than 12 years of DOS/Windows. I find myself right back in the newbie category and I'm anxious to get out! However, I need some help... I have installed SuSE Linux 9.0 Professional. I have managed to install KDE 3.2. My hardware seems to be working more or less okay. There are still issues, one of them with my soundcard. I've got the Terratec X-Fire 1024 (4.1) soundcard, which is identical to the Hercules Fortissimo II. Linux has recognised it as CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator]. It's working, but only through 2 speakers, the front speakers. I can't seem to get the rear speakers to work. The various mixer thingies I have (AlsaMixerGUI, KAMix, QAMix, gamix) don't show any rear speaker option or anything. Can someone please help me fix this? One more thing: if I can get this to work... I also require the ability to set each speaker's volume independently, to compensate for the placement of the speakers. Is this possible? I hope someone can help me with these two questions. Many thanks in advance! Willem van der Berg p.s. if you require more information, feel free to ask. I'm not sure what to provide cos I'm a newbie :) .
