As a consequence the kernel will be compiled and optimized for that architecture / processor type, with this you have immediately the most important optimization for a kernel. If you prefer to use a pre-compiled kernel in packages provided by a distribution, you should browse the kernel packages of your distribution and choose a kernel for AMD processors. Of course you can use a more generic kernel, that's no problem. So questioning that a certain distribution is "compatible" with a certain processor type, is wrong. It's the kernel (i.e. linux) that's relevant. No distribution is "more" "compatible" with AMD processors. Here also the difference between linux and GNU/Linux comes around, but I hope you'll get that by now. .
