Subj : Which version of Linux for AMD?

Hi,
I recently purchased a HP laptop with a 64 bit AMD processor(3000+). I
am a relative newbie to Linux and would like to know which free
distribution of Linux is the best to install for this. I have been
using RH 8.0 for sometime but I would like to know whether it is
compatible with the AMD processor. Thanks for any suggestions...
