Having getting quotes for a 20 CAL server with MS, I thought, "OK. I know a bit about UNIX, well "ls -l" anyway, lets get a box with Linux on and see what it's all about regardless of the SCO thing ;)" So I convinced the MD that a new box with linux, backplane, SBCs, tons of memory, big 15K SCSI discs for data and a big IDE for OS would be a good thing. Got some quotes that made him very happy as the overall price of the server was almost half his intended budget of his last WinServer! So, Req. rasied, box ordered! (OK so far people?) Now we've got all this spare cash to spend on an Office suite. As we're currently on Office97/NT4 combo (as you can see, it's been a while since the MD got his wallet out for software). Which will be a Office97/Linux combo. They, the workforce, extensively use Excel and Word and no matter what I do will not change them. So my question is this: Can OfficeXP/2000 operate with all the features it boasts (team integration, e-mail, et al) with a Linux backend? Or are you tied into Micro$oft? I.e. Dude if you buy a Merc., get it serviced by Merc! -- or -- Should I opt for something else that all our previous data can be ported into very easily? I.e. Linuxcel is a great GUI app. that does everything the Excel does but better mate! If fact your Excel files are better for the environment with Linuxcel. .
