No quibbles about your indication of the quality of MS OSes. However, you are running with a different definition of "stable" than the original poster indicated. He was talking about unchanging interfaces/compatability for developers ("external view of its platform is one of stability and consistency") whereas you are talking about the ability of a machine/application to keep running over time. Personally, I'd like both. And I'm not convinced that getting a little more consistency in Linux (version to version, distro to distro) would make it go down the Microsoft quality path. Not an easy thing to do, but I can dream.
