It depends on your perspective. Life is less fragmented in the application space. And where variations exist in user space or kernel interface, people have done work to ensure that their fragment is supported by the popular applications. But I write kernel modules and install scripts. I ran into issues just with SuSE Standard Server 8.0 (Linux) being different from SuSE Linux 8.0. I'm not saying that I prefer Windows or that I have a solution to the problem. Nor am I saying that I wished the only Linux in the world was (pick one) Red Hat. But the fragmentation is there just the same and it is an issue for those of us that have add-on products. Steve .
