Subj : Who blocks? To : comp.os.linux From : pascaldamian Date : Thu Jul 22 2004 10:42 am There are two things right now that drive me crazy when using Linux (RH73 + Gnome [1.4]). 1) When fixating, xcdroast freezes disk activity and sometimes even everything (mouse movement) for 30-60 seconds! (On Windows using the same computer, Nero freezes too but no more than a few seconds). 2) Using bestcrypt (encrypted block device), sometimes when the load is high, writing to bestcrypt partition is very slow (like only 4096 bytes per second, this is observed using strace). And Opera freezes a lot, sometimes for 15-20 seconds every freeze, during writing to disk cache. I never notice this noticeable/long freezes on Windows (also using Bestcrypt). Question: Can I reduce the freezes? It drives me crazy because it interrupts my typing/viewing video/whatever I'm doing. -- Pascal .
