I'm not sure how to set up a w2k server as a stand alone but that is what you have to do and then set up your linux box as the preffered master browser. I checked on my old w2k configuration and I saw that I had run it as a stand alone server. not sure how that was done though : ) (No memory of it anymore) An election has to be done between the servers and most of the time (according to my notes) the w2k server wants to win and slows down the network somehow, guess it's because the broadcast it makes. The name of the master vrowser doesn't matter it is the name of the server that wins the competition of being the master. And yes, domain master is the master browser.
