Subj : Re: Partition table is inconsistent To : comp.os.linux From : Ron Stohl Date : Mon Jul 19 2004 08:20 pm This isn't a problem. There are a couple of causes or inconsistencies between Linux and Windows: 1) Windows uses heads/cyls/sects for addressing while Linux uses logical block addressing. If you're using a large disk, the H/C/S numbers are often too large and thus become unusable. 2) Windows fdisk requires partitions to start on a cylinder boundary (which wastes a lot of space). Linux fdisk (at least sfdisk) can start on any block. Basically, the partition table is still good, just not necessarily pleasing to a Windows fdisk program. sekoia wrote: > i've got the same problem with fedora core on many config. either on a > new HDD or an already partitionned one, whatever i tried i had the same > error message. > This in an example of instability of Fedora Core . > > > -- > sekoia - 14 Temperance > > ......................................... > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > sekoia's Profile: http:/linuxcult.com/forum/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=12620 > View this thread: http://linuxcult.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=7045 > .
