Subj : Installing sound driver for Opti 931 card on Redhat 9 To : comp.os.linux From : swift Date : Fri Jul 16 2004 05:34 am Can anyone help me with manually installing a driver for a Opti 931 sound card that is not automatically supported by RH9? The OS detects the ISA card and lists its parameters in /proc/isapnp but there apparently is no driver that handles it, as redhat-config-sound indicates. Supposedly, the driver for the mad16, which is Opti 931 based, should be able to run this card. I got the isapnptools and ran pnpdump to create /etc/isapnp.conf, which is used to feed isapnp to figure out if the parameters are good. I then ran 'modprobe mad16' after modifying /etc/module.conf with the mad16 entries, including the port/dma/irq parameters. The modprobe returns no errors (after I tweaked some irq values). The /proc/isapnp file seems to indicate the newly selected values properly. However, it doesn't seem that anything really happened, as /dev/sndstat and /dev/dsp* still have nothing hooked to them. Did I load the mad16 module at all? BTW, the preferences->sound->sound_events stuff don't cause any sound output to the speaker. Thanks for any help.
