Subj : Memory usage

I'm running RHEL 3 on a machine with 256 MB RAM (and correctly reported 
as such by the POST on boot).  However when Linux boots up, I get a 
message that 256 MB is the minimum supported configuration and 248 MB is 
  found.  Where am I losing 8 MB of RAM?
