The installation went pretty smoothly. Yast (Suse's system maintainence tool) is nice. I didn't like the look and feel of Suse's default KDE desktop, so I switched to Gnome, and after a while had it looking almost the same as in my old Redhat distro. But it took me a while to figure out how to switch to Gnome---the printed documentation doesn't tell you. (You select from a menu just before loggin in, it's actually quite easy, it makes it convenient to switch from one desktop to another, something that's a little more trouble in Redhat. BTW, light window managers like icewm are included, which I like, the Redhat distro didn't include these.) The documentation with Suse is not as complete or as well written as with the old Redhat, but it's not bad. One difference is that Redhat documents their default mail server (sendmail), but Suse doesn't document theirs (postfix). I run a mail server with a small clientele, and it took me quite a while to set up postfix and imap. I would have stayed with Redhat if they'd kept their prices as they were, but I'm reasonably happy with Suse. Never tried Mandrake. ---Nessuno .
