I'm not exactly sure why your system does not have the routing table set up. When I boot by knoppix CD, everything is detected, and the dhcp client script sets up the route properly. On a PC with a single NIC (or a dialup), the routing table should have 2 entries. The first is a route to the subnet. The second is the default route, which is everything not otherwise specified (on my system): Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 The 0.0.0.0 is the default.
