.... that depends.  there is a binary install (install
binary packages versus a source build). and then there 
is the 'stage1' install, which is the source install.
there's even an install from windows procedure and a
knoppix install procedure.

and even with a stage1 [source] install, it's not difficult
to install, it's just time consuming.  heck, the quick
install guide is just a mere 2-3 pages, for those that
are experienced with Linux:

yea, it's time consuming, but you'll have a system that is
BUILT from scratch to match your performance requirements.
(or not if you go the binary route)
