You will find that there will be a whole lot of variations of opinion when you ask a question like that. The thing about RedHat, SuSE, etc is that while they may be a basic install and made to work well with newbie users they don't lack in power any more than the other distros do. The negative side of them is they tend to be overbloated with packages you don't need much like Windows. This doesn't mean however you can't trim it down using an advanced install, or tinker with the system any less than other distributions.
