Subj : Nvidia drivers and glxgears To : alt.comp.linux,alt.os.linux.slackware,comp.os.linux,comp.os.linux.advocacy,linux.redhat.misc,tw.bbs.comp.linux From : J. Smith Date : Tue Jul 06 2004 04:09 pm I wonder if anybody here can give some feedback concerning an intriguing issue with the Nvidia drivers. I've got two boxes with Nvidia cards - an old Riva TNT and a GeForce FX 5200 (or something like that.) In both cases, when I run glxgears with the Nvidia drivers loaded, glxgears seems to return pitiful numbers - like 50 fps, and my boxes run Athlon CPUs at more than 1 GHz. However, when running an application that depends on 3D acceleration for its performance, such acceleration seems to be there. For instance, the Molecules hack in xscreensaver runs completely smoothly and very fast at 1920x1440 resolution - quite different from what happens when running the Nvidia drivers distributed with X. Any suggestions so as to why glxgears does not seem to report the right thing? .
