Subj : Newbie Setup File Server and Mac Client

Im a complete newbie to Linux, and am thinking about setting up a
Linux file server for my home network. Basically I want to have loads
of HD space, and connect my Mac running OsX. I would prefer to use OSX
server but even a low spec G3/4 is pricey and have limited HD space
(3drives). What is a good spec for a linux machine, how easy is it to
setup/maintain, and are there issues with MacOSX? Also any other tips
would be helpful to.
