If you closely watch your distro boot, you'll see that it first mounts the root FS read-only. After some checks, it mounts it read/write. Your computer fails the checks. It doesn't "become" read-only - it never became read/write. So, if you want a read/write mounted partition, you're going to have to remount it yourself with "mount / -o remount,rw". Make sure you remount it as read only when done editing and before rebooting. Sybren -- The problem with the world is stupidity.
