Subj : typo in /etc/fstab cause system unable to boot, change. To : comp.os.linux From : Benjamin F. Zhou Date : Sat Jun 26 2004 02:16 am don't like the label=/ entry for the the / partition, in my /etc/fstab file, I replace it, however with a typo: /dev/hda1/ / ... the "/" following hda1 apparently is a syntax error. The boot stops at mounting partition, and sends me to the maintanence screen. However, for strange reason, that partition becomes read-only. I can read the /etc/fstab file, but am forbidden to write. I created a bootdisk from another machine with the same version of linux, and tried to boot from the correct /dev/hda1. However, it fails at finding init. I see there can be some param I can type in at boot: vmlinux param. But don't know what to type. Would anyone please kindly give me some hints to solve the delima. many many thanks, Ben .
