Subj : Mplayer "Can't open VMG info!" FIX To : comp.os.linux From : hansont Date : Fri Jun 25 2004 08:49 am Hey all, I figured that I will post a fix that helped me with my IDE CD-RW/DVD drive to watch DVD movies with Mplayer. First I assume you can burn CD's and read them perfectly. You might be able to read DVD data, but not watch the movies unless you surf for the .VOB file in the directories. This allowed me to watch the movies once I started gmplayer, but it sucked compared to Windows. First I did not mount the dvd player, or the cdrom. Instead I found that my cd-rw/dvd does get scsi emulated and can be found by: # cdrecord --scanbus You should see the CDRW drive listed in the output. If not then I cannot be sure this will work for you. Next I did a trial and error # mplayer dvd://1 -dvd-device /dev/scd0 if this does not work then try /dev/scd1... 2... 3... etc. It should start playing in Mplayer if it does just CTRL-C out of Mplayer and you found the correct device. Now just make a soft link for it in the dev directory. #ln -s /dev/dvd /dev/scd0 Then I used gmplayer and clicked the dvd icon. It came up just like mplayer said it would. Good luck. .
