Subj : Why not more "translation parties" and "feature request parties"? To : comp.os.linux From : xan2 Date : Fri Jun 25 2004 06:10 am Hi, Frequently, a group of users, developers of distributions and other colectives make a "bug squashing parties", times dedicaded to fix bugs (when I say bugs I don't include feauture request, although formally it could be considered as it). Recently, I saw a linufr.org webpage and I saw that they organized a translation party. I I thought that it is a good idea. I thought that in general there are a more few translation parties, and, in general, other "parties" not related to bugs. Why not?. Perhaps it were useful to have not only the software free of bugs. With only bug parties, _perhaps_ we have a "biased" programs, with a high bug fix developement but a low development with another areas (translations, more simple HIG, localization, feature requests...) Perhaps in this parties we could have more participation than in bug parties, because the people who can participate not have to be an specialist (for example in translation parties, non-informaticians people can participate). And these could serve as a process of initiation: if I translate some program, perhaps I will interested in this program (how it runs, and how it could be...). What do you think? Perhaps parallely to bug squashing parties, we have to got other parties? Perhaps in the next bug squashing of Debian, we have to got translation party and new feature request party for example? Cheers, Xan. .
