Subj : Upgrade GAIM need to update GLIBC ?? To : comp.os.linux,alt.os.linux From : snowdogdb Date : Thu Jun 24 2004 12:52 pm Hi, I've been having a real hard time simply upgrading GAIM (0.75 to 0.78). I've had a sting of dependencies that I just can't seem to complete. I'm running Redhat 9 on dual Xeon's Kernel 2.4.20-30.9smp rpm -Uhv gaim-0.78-0rh9.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: gtkspell is needed by gaim-0.78-0rh9 libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-0.78-0rh9 ....ok, so then I try... rpm -Uhv gtkspell-2.0.4-0.1.fc2.dag.x86_64.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libc.so.6()(64bit) is needed by gtkspell-2.0.4-0.1.fc2.dag libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by gtkspell-2.0.4-0.1.fc2.dag ....ok, so then I try... rpm -Uhv glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7.i386.rpm package glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7 is already installed Urrrugghh!!! I've also tried to install gtkspell from the tar distribution ....was told I needed gtk+-2.0 ....so I tried to install gtk+-2.0 (2.4.3 tar distribution) ....was told I needed to install atk ....so I tried to install atk (1.6.0 tar distribution) ....was told I needed glib 2.0.0 or better ....so I tried to install glib (2.4.2 tar distribution) ....looked like it worked, then I tried to install atk again ....now I get 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.4.2, but GLIB (2.2.1) was found! Can it really be this hard? Please help before I chuck my system out a 4 story window!!!! .
