Ok. You did mention you had a NForce2 chipset, but you didn't say that
you were using the built-in soundcard.

Ok, but what are you doing? Please tell us the exact steps you took,
programs you used, etc.

They are good, but not enough. How can we help you if you don't tell us
what you've done? Of course, I could start by asking "is it plugged
in?", but you'd only think I'm belittling you.
