Subj : Re: big problem with text sharpness To : comp.os.linux From : berger Date : Wed Jun 16 2004 10:33 pm Thanks for your suggestions. At 1024x768 resolution, I'm still getting excessive fuzz on the characters. The fuzz disappears if I turn off antialiasing, but then my fonts look very jagged, like bad wood cuts. (I don't know how to turn off antialiasing in Mozilla, only for the desktop & terminal.) As you say, the fuzziness may be an issue with the font server. I've already installed the latest version of freetype (2.1.8) -- is there something else I should update? Viewing the monitor in text-only mode without X11, the text looks perfect. I attribute this to the fact that there is no antialiasing going on. (The font is not jagged in this case because it is a terminal font designed to be displayed without antialiasing.) This would seem to indicate the problem is not with the monitor, but with the font rendering. Please let me know what other software you think could be updated to improve the situation.
