If you think it's an issue with the font server, check to see if you have the latest version. Try hitting Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to a text-only terminal. Is it still fuzzy? Of course the console runs at someting like 320x240, but it doesn't rely on X11 or whatever you may be using for graphical interface.
