You can view your current download/upload speeds while doing internet
stuff with a program called "Gkrellm"
([url]http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html[/url]) in Linux.  It
does not tell you your maximum upload/download speeds, but rather tells
you what upload/download speeds you are currently using.
