The split command will get the job done, if you're just looking to turn 
one big file in to two smaller ones. Don't expect it to play, though.

man split brings up:

NAME
        split - split a file into pieces

SYNOPSIS
        split [OPTION] [INPUT [PREFIX]]

DESCRIPTION
        Output  fixed-size  pieces of INPUT to PREFIXaa, PREFIXab, ...; 
default PREFIX is `x'.  With no INPUT, or when INPUT is -, read standard 
input.
