Subj : Limitations on XMLHTTPRequest's callback function

I'm curious about the limitations that seem to be set on the callback
function of xmlhttprequest. In XUL it won't allow window.close().  Also it
won't allow "var x = <xmp/>". Can anyone shed some light on this?
