If you ever needed to assemble some data into a more complex data  
structure (i.e. construct few maps and lists embedded into each other) in  
a language that doesn't support map and list literals, i.e. plain (as in  
"non-Groovified") Java, I think you'd immediately come to appreciate the  
feature :-)
