I appreciate the point about byte-codes, your quote from the ECMA
specification is interesting, and I take your point about using
HTTPRequest.

I wouldn't think of complaining: it was just an idea, but it probably
breaks some "separation of code from data" concept.

Given that it is implementation dependent, I have used this approach
very sparingly, if at all: and only for code I use privately within IE.
