I think this company

has a Java browser (component) that uses Rhino for JavaScript support in 
the browser, I have never used that browser component but if it is 
really meant to consume average web pages then it would need to be able 
to deal with stuff like
   document.imageName
Of course I can't say how they implement their stuff.
