For ECMAScript your are pretty much forced to use hand-made lexer since 
AFAIK there is no lexer that can deal with all UNICODE line ending and 
format chars that ECMAScript allows to use everywhere in the source.

And for the parser perhaps SM developers wrote it themselves for the the 
same reasons C++ in GCC now has it, see
