A Java-based BBS would certainly be interesting... has a lot of pros and cons I suppose. Programming the internet servers would be a lot easier, and cross-platform support is always nice... but on the other hand, some sysops might not like the idea of having to download Java 1.4 (20+ meg download?) in order to run a bbs. Also, a Java-based BBS would be totally unable to run standard doors... Windows sysops could use a third-party door server (rlogin-enabled software like Synchronet and GameSrv works well for this) but *nix sysops would be up the creek it would seem :( .
