"the" value of I"P" isn't - each person will value it differently. The mere fact you may highly value the ability to control redistribution under an assumption it allows you to successfully charge higher per-copy prices (sale of a copy being exchanging something you value less, a copy of a work, for something you value more, money) is not in itself any good reason to grant it to you. The very existence of such a right might be negatively valued by lots of people. .
