Bought? I said "supplied". No copyright, remember? People aren't going to pay much for copies. A plagiarist might even give copies away widely to try and spread the misinformation that he authored the information: The motivation for the plagiarism is to mislead people into believing the plagiarist, not the original author, is responsible for the information production, so that the plagiarist rather than the original author, is hired for services of authorship instead of the real author - and, given people's tendency to voluntarily pay authors, such tip money they intended for the author of the information would also be diverted to the plagiarist. Hey, I know, how about a right to be identified as the author... > If they wanted something directly from Rowland, they would > have asked. Yup... Only the thing they might want is not necessarily another copy of an existing disclosed information pattern they can get elsewhere, but the production and release of a novel information pattern, and R. is approached based on previous strength and for continuity. If misled into believing the plagiarist rather than the true author authored the information, the consortium formed to organise payment would end up asking the wrong person for the service of production and release. > And J.K.Rowling still has the $3 she got for the > version you scanned Why would she disclose to me for $3? Of course, she would need build a rep for herself before commanding very high fees for the service of writing new books or disclosing new books, of course, so if it was her first book, perhaps she wouldn't get a huge amount for disclosure. (though if she e.g. released a gripping 3 chapters, left 1000s of people wondering what happened next, and said the rest would only be released on payment of X 1000s credits to her by a person or group of people...) .
