The two hottest things I can think of are dynamic typing like Ruby, and 
programming using constraints instead of debugging, such as DbC or TDD.

Don't study those because I would bet money your school never told you about 
them and those exams don't mention them. Do whatever it takes to pass the 
tests. But use them in the real world (and utterly in preference to any 
Java), and you'l do great.
