Whether you were serious here or joking or not sure yourself, you've got to know that this is the wrong thing to say. Fake it, dude. Things are really different now than twenty+ years ago. Nobody wants to hire you, no matter who you are. They want to hire a bundle of skills. If they even perceive you, odds are you won't get the gig. I know this ticks you off, and maybe it should, but if you want to get through the modern hiring process you've got to be bland. Put on a mask, dress like the boss, tell him he's a very handsome man, y'know this has always been good advice, and these days it's become a requirement even down here in our little technocratic world. ASCII resume? Well, it's not a total DQ but it will stand out these days. Can't get someone to liberate you a copy of Word? Can't use it at the local library, or your neighbor's house, or whatnot? Believe me, the average programmer doesn't know what to do with Word either, maybe more should stick with ASCII. Me, I love Word! Why hasn't the hiring process switched to more executable/online forms of resume? Well, probably because HR is involved, and they don't grok such fancy stuff. Not to mention all the little recruiters out there mucking up the hiring process even further. It's an odd world we live in, but what can you do but try to find your place in it, something within your scope, and work it as best you can? J. .
