Why should a country or a person hope or aspire to be a power ..? Why
do you need power ..? The only reason power is useful for is to BULLY.
What you should really hope for is strength. Strength to have the will
and courage and the strength ( recursion intended ! ) to help for
eg.storm victims.

"American jobs for American programmers" - well , is working on Google
Labs an American job ..? At least 60% of the internet stays outside the
united states.(actually its much more - I am not sure about the number)
 It does make sense to give the Indians or the Chinese some bread ( or
which ever food they ask for ) in return for jobs done at Google Labs,
China or in India.

Well, they do a good job of teaching patriotism in the schools. As its
evident in all the guilds and stuff. And also as is evident in extreme
forms of extremism like for eg.terriorism. But currently they don't
teach what a Global Economy is. We have to learn it ourselves. I
suggest we try. Its a good investment.

"Good Jobs for Good Programmers" - Sounds better?
