You know how, in unix, you have that set of powerful tools (awk, sed, wc, od, strings, grep, find, etc) plus your favorite flavor of shell sauce to cook them in? Well, this is a Windows company, unix rare, Macs rarer, so I have two choices: run my own unix or unix emulator (not interested in existing in two environments--been there, done it, disliked it a lot) OR find a way to bring those tools to Windows. Perl does it all. All the utilities plus the sauce. It's the glue that holds together a lot of what I do. What makes it double plus good for me is the library modules that let me casually script prototype routines that access ODBC SQL, parse XML or HTML, or access Windows COM. I get a huge benefit from the labors of some pretty smart perl programmers!! -- |_ CJSonnack _____________| How's my programming? | |_ http://www.Sonnack.com/ ___________________| Call: 1-800-DEV-NULL | |_____________________________________________|_______________________| .
