Alternatively, you could just take a brick down to your local computer 
bookshop, and hurl it through the window. Then just grab what you can find, 
and run.

You see, it just depends on what you mean by "free". If "free" only means 
"not nailed down", then there's an awful lot of free stuff around.

Policemen's headgear is free, by the way. No need to ask - just walk up to 
any policeman and remove his helmet. It is traditional for him to put up a 
little opposition, but don't worry about that - it's folkloric, in much the 
same way that a newly appointed parliamentary Speaker is "unwillingly" 
hauled to the Speaker's Chair by fellow MPs.

To keep in the spirit of the thing, you are supposed to play-fight with the 
policeman, while calling out any of a wide variety of amusing ethnic terms. 
It keeps the tourists happy, and you get a brand new hat out of the deal. 
Free.
