Leadership by subversion is much easier than convincing them an idea has merit. This usually works when you can't find an easy way to explain the complicated reasoning that they want to here why an idea is worthwhile. They usually won't/can't read more than a paragraph or two anyway. Just give them the idea and let them figure it out. This really works well when done privately to members of a team before a meeting. You don't even need to be there to make something useful happen. David .
