In a word: experience.

In more words: Experience solving problems can be invaluable, because
you may have seen similar problems, or worked with similar systems,
or done similar research using similar sources.

Even a previous history of thinking about and solving problems is
invaluable for the same reason that a history of weight lifting is
invaluable to building strength.
