Just so you know, this student wasn't a CS grad. (He's an Aeronautical
Engineer). He's written code, but that's not his focus. I just was
supporting the point that even the best grades are not a guarantee of
an offer. Some places are happy with B grade students that are willing
to conform.

so likely the rule still holds, VP's and higher never write code, At
least not decent code. (note Mr. Gates falls into that category too, he
can't write decent code.)
