GTK is unbelievably badly designed from the ground up. It would be quicker,
easier, more fun and more useful to simply start from scratch and do it
properly.

At some point, you have to decide not to develop other open source software
because it is below some design-quality threshold. Most open-source
software is of very poor quality.
